Immigration in California History

CA-Immigration-Snapshot-cover-600px.jpg

Immigration is one of the most heavily debated topics today, especially in California. California has the highest yearly immigrant population in the United States. In 2018, over 27% of the population was comprised of foreign-born individuals. About 40% were from Mexico, 7% were from China, and 5% were from India. The controversy with immigration is that foreign workers are "stealing" American jobs. While degrees and education aren't everything, it is important to note that almost a 1/3 of the immigrant population has less than a high school diploma. In comparison, only 7% of California citizens have less than a high school diploma. This should, in theory, make it easier for those American citizens to get jobs.
