Anti-Suffrage Movement

As the suffrage movement played out, a counter movement that was opposed to women gaining the right to vote and women's equality in general was formed. This movement included both men and women, and they often claimed that, because women took care of the home and children, they "did not ahve time to vote or stay updated on politics" ("Opposition to Suffrage"). The propaganda seen below highlights the deeply engrained gender prescriptions present in society during the first-wave feminism movement as women are portrayed as delicate, emotional beings who have no place in the political world and lack "the expertise or mental capacity to offer a useful opinion about political issues" ("Opposition to Suffrage").
