California Women's Suffrage Movement

The Womens Suffrage Movement in California, was not the first, but paved the way for women all across the country. These women fought for the equal right to vote from 1868 to 1896, when they first introduced the legislation to support them, and after that failed, they fought agaisnt anti-suffrage groups and non-believers until 1911, when Prop 4 was finally passed. Even after California gained the right to vote, many of the women went on to help in the National Movement for Womens Suffrage, working to allow all women the same rights that they had already won.
