Because of her father’s postings, she lived in Delhi, Holland, and New York City by the time she graduated college. Mrs. Wahi studied Chemistry and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Institute of Sciences before moving to New York City with her family in 1968. She eventually went back to India, where she met and married her husband Pran Wahi in 1970. After getting married, Mrs. Wahi and her husband moved first to Boston and eventually came to the Pacific Northwest in 1973, when there were relatively few Indian families in the area. She and her husband settled on Mercer Island. Mrs. Wahi became involved with the fledgling Indian community, teaching children the Hindi language and Indian history for 20 years. She also shared her culture in local public schools, volunteered at the Seattle Asian Art Museum and coordinated events that promoted Indian culture. Mrs. Wahi has also worked in area hospitals, courts, and school systems as a language interpreter. She and her husband are long time members and contributors to the India Association of Western Washington and People for Progress in India. She and her husband Pran live on Mercer Island, WA. She has two daughters, Charu and Anshu.
