Of the water they allowed us nearly a pint each, which was a seasonable relief, for without it, I am certain that some of my companions would not have survived the night. It was pleasing to me to witness the apparent gratitude, which every one of the crew now manifested toward Him, who had wrought their deliverance from immediate starvation--after we had partaken of our scanty meal, it was proposed by me that we should all kneel, and individually return thanks to God for this wonderful proof of his infinite goodness--a proposition that was cheerfully agreed to by all, the Arabs in the mean time standing over us, apparently much diverted with a view of the attitude in which we placed our bodies during our pious devotions.
