Power Dynamics in Pachinko
This project aims to explore the novel Pachinko by Min Jin Lee through the historical context of power dynamics between Korea and Japan during the period of Japanese colonization from 1910 to 1945. By examining the historical context of Japanese imperialism and the role that gender and race played during this time, we can see how Pachinko is an allegory of colonization, represented by the main characters of Sunja and Hansu.
The first three sections of the website are more so background historical context to understand the later points on the relationship that Sunja and Hansu have and the book overall. It is encouraged to navigate the site from point 1 to point 7 in chronological order.
