The Rolling Devils pose for a team photo c. 1947. By the spring of 1948, World War II paralyzed veterans played a game of wheelchair basketball at New York's Madison Square Garden. With over 15, 561 boisterous spectators, the event foreshadows the movement of physically disabled individuals to reintegrate into social communities.
