Manifest Card for Entering USA
Title
Manifest Card for Entering USA
Creator
USA government
Subject
immigration
Description
Early U.S. immigration acts did not require keeping statistics on alien arrivals at land borders, leading to distinct statistical treatment for Canadian and Mexican border immigrants compared to those arriving by sea. Record-keeping for Canadian border entries began in 1895 and around 1906 for the Mexican border. These are the first documented sources of immigration into USA from foreign neighbors.
