Creator
Dupont, Stephen
Subject
Mujahideen fighter, Afghanistan
Description
Informal portrait of a Mujahideen fighter standing in front of a wall riddled with bullet holes, near the front lines, during fighting against the Taliban. Each of his arms has been amputated at the elbow and replaced with a prosthesis. He is holding a Soviet Kalashnikov AKM rifle and wearing a Soviet army belt, presumably captured during the Mujahideen's ten-year resistance to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989. He wears the traditional wool pakol hat favoured by many Afghan resistance fighters. Taken in Afghanistan: Parwan Province, Bagram.
