Description
The Tennessee Valley Authority Act, signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on May 18, 1933, created the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) as part of the New Deal response to the Great Depression. The act aimed to stimulate economic recovery through infrastructure development, flood control, hydroelectric power generation, and rural electrification in the Tennessee Valley region. The TVA represented a major expansion of federal involvement in economic development and public utilities.
