Final Project Eliza Maxfield 3/2024
View FullscreenGlobal Intersections of Religion and Violence
by Eliza Maxfield
Welcome!
This exhibit examines the intersections of religion and violence through the lens of three different texts from different geographic contexts and periods of history. Despite the apparent disconnect between these three works, there are significant parallels between how characters interpret religion for the purpose of violence; these parallels can provide readers with insight into broader socioeconomic patterns such as racism, sexism and colonization.
On the map, points that correlate to Mary Rowlandson's Captivity Narrative are in blue, points that correlate to Kamila Shamsie's Home Fire are in red, and points that correlate to Sophocles' Antigone are in green.
The timeline correlates to various waypoints, but not all waypoints have a mark on the timeline. Please note that text in some waypoints requires the viewer to scroll down.
A complete Works Cited can be viewed on the last waypoint.
Thank you!
