The Balance of Preservation & Modernization on Santa Clara’s Campus

View Fullscreen

Given Santa Clara's long and rich history in the Bay Area, it comes as no surprise that the physical attributes of the university's campus strike a balance between preserving the history of the school and land and moving the university both visually and intellectually into the twenty-first century. As a Jesuit university, one could certainly argue that the university's religious roots, which still strongly impact the university today, could conflict with the modern nature of an institution of higher learning. While this is certainly true in many cases, the university has been able to find a middle ground between the two. The path leading from the main entrance of Santa Clara's  campus up to the current Mission Santa Clara de Asís proves to be an excellent example for this balance that the campus has struck between the past and the present.
