Whatsourname - NL Project

The WhatsItsName, created by Hadi Hassani Aidros aka Hadi al-Attag, the junk dealer.  As a junk dealer who has an eye for discarded parts, Hadi Hassani Aidros takes people’s body parts that appear in war, in order to create something new. Despite simply wanting peace for the dead, he ends up unintentionally bringing a creature, WhatsItsName, to life. This map and timeline tracks the places that WhatsItsName travels to, with each location representing the very parts that make up WhatsItsName. This project will also "Frankenstein" the pieces of Iraq's political leadership for historical context.

This map and timeline also demonstrates how Saadawi expresses the feelings of loss and grief. These emotions are universally felt, whether by Iraqi or American families. Whatsitsname is inhabited by a dead human’s soul, giving more weight to the perspective of the dead and their families that are also torn to pieces during wartime. With more emphasis on how the spirit of the dead is still alive, Hadi creates Whatsitsname from a place of grief; despite the death of loved ones, their essence and the impact on other still lives on.
