This Fire Engine donated by the San Jose Fire department allows children to get behind the wheel of a Firetruck and interact with the equipment in a guided experience. It represents how the local community contributes to the Children's Discovery Museum's mission of edutainment.

One of the museum's sponsors is First 5, a Santa Clara County initiative devoted to early childhood development.

Local organizations contribute to the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose in a variety of ways, monatary donations and entire exhibits for some examples. Both the Fire Engine and the Ambulance allow children to explore the inner workings of these vehicles with freedom.

Through this the site becomes a place of public memory, strenching back decades as new generations visit the museum. The passage of time also serves as a vehicle for change, as new exhibits may be added and some may be removed in favor of a better learning experience for guests.
