Conclusions and Future Research

Conclusions

Though some of these artifacts can be loosely tied to an Italian immigrant identity, none of them are totally diagnostic, and thus it is difficult to say whether or not the Bacigalupi family was actively trying to maintain their Italian identity or trying to fit in with 20th century American Middle class ideals.

Future Research

One way to find out more about the ethnic and cultural identities of the occupants of 671 Franklin Street would be follow the example of Fitts’s 2002 research on an Italian immigrant in which he looked at archaeological record and supplemented it with interviews from the individual’s descendants. If possible, it would be very informative to hear from any living relatives of the Bacigalupis.
