Conclusion

In conclusion, Italian American immigrants had a large presence in California in both the fishing and winery industries. The Italians in the fishing industry within California were able to greatly succeed, taking their experience from home with them to the new waters in the United States. Doing so, they were also able to stay true to their identity and background, creating a sense of community and also not letting gender be an obstacle to success. Furthermore, the growth of wineries in California came to light through the immigration of Italians and allowed them to prosper and become successful. Italians were able to take the skills that they had cultivated through their history in Italy to prosper in California in their respective industries. The Italians from Northern Italy specialized in wineries since they were usually better off and had more access to education, while many Southern Italians primarily worked more labor-intensive jobs such as being fishermen. Although different, both highlight the labor experiences Italian Americans faced within the United States and how their presence has had an impact on the country today.
