Why These Photos Are Included
Photographs are powerful tools for documenting and understanding history. They capture the raw reality of genocide and serve as evidence of the crimes committed. These images are included not to sensationalize suffering, but to bear witness to the human impact of genocide and to honor the victims and survivors whose lives were forever changed. I chose to include these images to not underrepresent or diminish the atrocities that some victims were subjected to during these genocides. I personally find them integral to completely and holistically understanding the extent to which these genocides and their perpetrators went to in order to maintain control, establish dominance, and to break down a society and its members. This gallery is for educational purposes only.
