Important Texts Printed on the Zamorano
Manifesto A La Republica Mejicana Que Hace El General De Brigada by Jose Figueroa:
All following information regarding the Manifesto is from the Bibliographical Society of America youtube video regarding the Zamorano.
- The Manifesto was, to that point, the largest book printed on the press.
- The Manifesto was written completely in Spanish
- The Manifesto was printed on Italian handmade paper that was gathered as 49 unsigned bifolia and stab sewn together
- It was originally bound in paper wrappers of various colors
- It was a type: Small Pica No.1, Boston Type & Sterotype Foundry, MA
- Which is important becasue it means that there were no accented letters necessary for Spanish words
- "Printer accommodated the [ñ] by altering a [f] ligature
- The manifesto also included an Errata which was essentially telling of some spelling mistakes/typological errors
This is an issue of the first newpaper in California from the Californian (Vol.1 No.1).
