History of The Hut
The newspaper clippings, as well as the images below, are a demonstration of the multitude of ways The Hut has contributed to the student life at Santa Clara since its beginnings. Each article and memory contributes to the greater understanding of the significance of The Hut to Santa Clara University in a unique way. As you explore these artifacts, take note of the year, the article title and the other SCU campus activities and locations noted within. These stories help the Santa Clara community remember and celebrate the events associated with this campus bar. Through a plentiful collection of articles and memories, The Hut lives on with the students' time and place rememberance of this campus bar.

Taken during the last years before the shut down of The Hut bar in 2017, this image demonstrates the crowded gathering place inside with decorations, neon lighting and the original "The Hut" sign. This image captures the culture of The Hut and what would be commonly found inside the establishment before the closing in 2017. The sign pictured here was recently recovered for the renovated version of "The Hut" that currently stands along the Alameda.

The neon sign depicted above is a symbol of the dollar bills that used to be hung along the ceilings and walls in The Hut before the renovation and reopening in 2019. This sign hangs on the wall as a nostalgic remembrance of the old Hut, while making progressive change to stay new and relevant with current students at Santa Clara University.
