Treasury of San Marco

This document, housed in the Archivio di Stato di Venezia, records the expenses associated with the creation of a new Ducal Corno in the mid 16th century.  Payments were made to jewelers, stone cutters, and merchants involved in the acquisition of stones and fabrication of this important symbol of state.

The interior of the Treasury of San Marco has changed little since Jacopo Sansovino designed the current layout in the early 16th century.  However, the items on display has changed considerably since the early modern period.
