1960s: Gay Liberation and Feminist Movements

The 1960s were a time period of cultural changes for women in American society. Women were able to take charge for their family planning, and were entering the workforce in greater numbers. There were also demands for equal pay for equal work, and more equality in child rearing and domestic work. The antiwar and Civil Rights movements pushed more women to fight for their rights. In the LGBTQ+ rights sphere, more and more LGBTQ+ activism groups were forming across the country, and resistance events such as the Compton's Cafteria Riot and Stonewall Riots showed that LGBTQ+ people were not willing to back down when it came to their freedom and equal treatment in society.
