"If it is not a fit place for women, it is unfit for men to be there"- Sojourner Truth

The theme of this exhibition is Women's History. Through the study of waves of feminism and intersectionality, we intend to walk you through the various stages in history and examine how the rights and social status of women have changed over the course of time. Additionally, this exhibition also explores the connection between women's history and education for young children, focusing on how early education for school children might have been a result of feminist activities. Some questions we look to answer with this exhibit are:

How does the absence of female voices dictate the construction of history? How does intersectionality play a role in history and how is it silenced? How does the author dictate the narrative? Why did first-wave feminism arise in the United States? How did first-wave feminism lead to the beginnig of the denigration of women’s traditional societal gender spheres? How have the feministic activities during the last century influenced the public’s perception of human rights?

As the authors, we were interested in creating a Women’s History exhibit because it is a topic that each of us is interested in and passionate about, especially considering all three of us identify as women and many of the societal pressures women have faced throughout history still exist in ways today. With this project, we hope to explore some of the challenges different groups of women and young girls have faced throughout recent history and evaluate if these problems have been solved, or if they still exist today.
