This portion of the website will cover the progress of the birth control movement in the early 20th century, and examine how women's autonomy regarding their reproductive health changed after the criminalization of birth control. It was a time of controversy and advancement for women's reproductive health, beginning with the banning of contraception under the Comstock Act. The following pages will outline the key figures, achievements, and historical events that defined the women's rights movement spanning the late 1800s to the early 1900s.
