Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assasination on April 8, 1968 rocked the United States to its core during a time already fraught with social and political unrest. This event completely changed the racial politics of this nation forever and made the need for equal civil rights for all Americans urgent and apparent to many privileged citizens. The repercussions of Dr. King's assasination can even be seen at Santa Clara University in the creation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Fund to help more African American students attend the university.
