Texts Printed on the 1590 Jesuit Press

Texts printed on this press were mostly devotional or linguistic texts. Texts were most often printed in Japanese, Portuguese, or Latin. Not only were Jesuits trying to convert the Japanese people, but they were also trying to create resources that would aid them during their language learning process. 

Aesop's Fables: The title page of the Kirishitiban-ban edition of Aesop's Fables, published by the Jesuit Mission Press in 1593 at Amusuka, Japan. 

Qincvxv (Kinkushu): The last page of the Kirishitan-ban edition of the Qincvxv (Kinkushu), a collection of Chinese maxims, printed at Amakusa in 1593. 

Heike monogatori: The title page of the Kirishitanban edition of the Heike monogatori, printed at Amakusa in 1592. This was also the first Japanese novel to be printed.
