Mexican Immigration to California

About this Exhibition

This exhibit focuses on Mexican immigration, specifically immigration to California and how this fought for their civil rights. This exhibit examines events and history dating back to the early 1900's and continues through Today. This exhibit explores the various strategies used to fight against their oppression, which were in some ways inspired by the Black civil rights movement. There is information about Mexican immigration history to the United States within museums around the country, but this exhibit explores the immigration history in California specifically, with a few events from other states included for additional context. In addition, this exhibit focuses on how events related to the experience of being Mexican immigrants in California influenced the ways that they chose to protest against their oppression.

The exhibit begins with a map and timeline detailing important events in Mexican immigration history, including a few relevant events outside of California. Click the link below to view the exhibit fullscreen, or explore on the embedded map on this page.
