Korean Immigrants and Civil Rights

About

This section of the website will discuss Korean immigration, the Korean lifestyle in America and how Korean immigrants fought for their civil rights in America through various protests and development of the preservation of the Korean community. The geography and time period that the exhibit will be covering is specifically Hawaii and California from 1900-1940. During this time, Korea was colonized by the Japanese, so parts of Korean immigration history will touch on Koreans fighting for their civil rights and indpendence for Koreans overseas as well. Korea is a very small country and much of its history is unfamiliar to the public, which is why this page's goal is to explore in depth about important dates, events, and historical figures in Korean immigrant history. This includes their education and how they preserved their culture and language by establishing a community of their own.
