Lucas Artists Residency Program
The Lucas Artists Residency Program was created in order to give artists an environment conducive to creating and collaboration for projects. This is a place that not many people would necessarily visit Villa Montalvo to see, rather, this would be of upmost importance if you were an artist.
Stakeholders Come Together Over Art
Despite the fact that people would not necessarily visit the Artists program, they may stumble upon art in other forms around the grounds. For example, the string art is seen when walking up the ramp from one of the parking lots. A concert-goer may not have come to Villa Montalvo for the art, yet it is weaved in throughout the nature.
This is a case of stakeholders coming together.
Art and nature have been intertwined to form this spectacle for the average visitor to see. Artists and nature lovers are forced to have a conversation as their interests come together in a way that is not separate to their own fields.
Renaming Montalvo & Emphasis on Art
It’s also worth noting that, as I said before, Villa Montalvo was renamed the Montalvo Arts Center. Despite it being known for many other uses, it’s name emphasizes the art aspect of this place. It causes viewers to pause and wonder what makes one aspect of Montalvo more important than others?
