Will's Power Before Moving to Thornhill's Point
Will's power at the time matched his status.
With no money, friends, or legal status what power could Will really have? His job with Mr. King, meant he had no power over his occupation or how much money he made. He did not have the power to guarantee his family a consistent revenue. This did slightly change when Sal opened up a bar, when they moved to a bigger hut, but the bar could not provide for the entire family, so the family still relied on Will's income from his job. Here, Will's economic status causes his lack of financial strength and power to control his own life.
Will did not have any slaves, convicts, or employees that he had power over to order. During some of this time even he was legally considered as a slave to Sal, so how can he have any power over anyone when he had the lowest legal standing possible in New South Wales. He did not have the power to even fully control his own actions as Sal could technically command him to do what she wanted. Will's legal standing in this case limited his power as it caused him to not even have power over himself.
Will did not have any power to sway anyone to do something, as he did not have any influence whatsoever over people in the city at the time. He lacked the power to order people or even have people listen. Will's social status at the time is what caused him to have absolutly no power over anybody else through influence.
