This is early into the war. This newspaper's goal is to build national pride and will the people to come together to fight the enemy that is the Confederacy. There are many talks about the right way to approach this war. Some proposed that more money would help win the war. There were also talks on what the war should be fighting for. This newspaper is very important because it lets the people know what is going on and what actions are being taken in place to combat this war.

The Soldiers Journal (Rendezvous of Distribution, VA, April 27, 1864)

The Union was enraged by the Confederacy for their war tactics. They believe that the Confederacy fought uncivilized. They should be ashamed of themselves for going into hospitals and killing wounded men. Not only did they kill wounded men, but they killed women and children inside these hospitals. The woman and children received a lot of abuse. The Union is also Enraged at the fact that the Confederacy is using enslaved soldiers. They believe that if they are brave enough to fight then they deserve the same rights as a white soldier. This is a clear example of why newspapers were important. By sharing information about the battles and letting it be known of certain atrocities committed. This can help the Union grow a sense of nationalism and anger towards the Confederacy.

The Civil War grew the demand for reporters since everyone wanted to know what exactly was going on. Reporters went with the soldiers to document the battles. The reporters would then go back to their newspaper company and give them the report. These reports would come out weekly and for the time it was instantaneous. The Civil War grew the newspaper industry. The people started to see more and more why they were important. Without reporters and newspapers, there would have not been updates about the battles. Newspaper companies grew nationally and helped people who were far away become aware of the many things going on during the war.
