How the Cold War Changed India

During the Cold War, India, unknown to many, was actually involved with at time both the United States and the Soviet Union. Post Independence from the British in 1947, India's international relations with the Soviets grew. India was occupied for almost 90 years and this really affected India.

As the relations between the Soviets and India grew the Soviets started selling arms to them as well as China. The Soviets also affected their economic philosophy. The Soviets goals were to expand diplomatic ties with India.

India did not want much to do with America at the time as they supported Pakistan and those two countries were in a war. This affected India the most in the Kashmir region and was very bloody and violent. As time moves on both countries realize that peace and non nuclear war is better and strive for a more balanced world.

There was lots of propaganda going around all over the world at this time and India was not different, the Indian government was pushing out misleading information and was trying to take control unjustly of different parts of India. The influence of the Soviet Union did not help out the people of India. One of the major instances of this was in Punjab.
