The Korean War
The Korean War, spanning from 1950 to July 27, 1953, is divided into five phases. As illustrated in the following Neatline, Phase 1 focuses on the joint efforts of the UN and the US in defending South Korea. Phase 2 illustrates the UN taking the offensive side and attacking North Korea. One of the famous battles during the Korean War also occurred in this phase: the Battle at Chosin Reservoir. Phase 3 shows the involvement of the Communist Chinese Forces (CCF), taking the offensive side against the United Nations. Eventually, the UN is forced to withdraw from their positions as Chinese forces advance. Turning to Phase 4, we see the UN taking a counteroffensive stance, clashing against CCF. Finally, Phase 5 spans from 1951 to 1953, covering the start of the Armistice talks to the signing of the Armistice and officially ending the three-year Korean conflict.
Here, we'll see an animated overview of the entire five phases. This summarizes the key events that occurred from June 1950 to the stalemate and armistice period in 1953. This video also provides a 3-D illustration of the map where the war took place.
