John A. Sobrato is no doubt a unique and impactful figure. He undoubtedly shaped the San Francisco Bay Area and SCU into what they are today and continues to shape these communities' future through the Sobrato Organization and the Sobrato Family Fund. He continues caring for the Bay Area and SCU community with his donations, investments, and service, reflecting his adherence to the Jesuit values of being "men and women for others." He has created a legacy of philanthropy and social responsibility in his family and used his wealth to foster social justice and equality in the Bay Area. His Catholic and Jesuit values shine through his actions and contributions, promoting equality and social justice in the Bay Area and cultivating Jesuit values at SCU. He exhibits the Italian value of la Famiglia by integrating his family into his business and philanthropy and treating his community, including SCU and the Bay Area, as an extension of his family. Sobrato also sheds light on the rapid transformation of the status of Italian-Americans in American history and how far they've come. Lastly, aspects of Sobrato's life show that all Italian-Americans, even successful billionaires like John A. Sobrato, are impacted by Italian-American history.
