About the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA)

The National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA), established in 1869 by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, was an organization in the fight for women's suffrage in the United States. NWSA was formed in response to the exclusion of women from the 15th Amendment, which granted voting rights to African American men. The NWSA focused on securing a federal amendment to enfranchise women. The organization also addressed broader issues of gender inequality, including women's property rights, education, and workplace discrimination. Additionally, it operated independently of political parties.
