Suffrage in Cartoons

About Suffrage in Cartoons

In the 19th century, anti-suffrage cartoons mocked women as frivolous and unfit for politics, like an 1894 Puck cartoon showing a woman unable to vote because her dress was too wide. Suffragists fought back by creating their own visual propaganda. Groups like NAWSA and the National Woman’s Party (NWP) hired artists, managed publicity campaigns, and used photos of suffragist mothers to reshape public opinion.
