Henry Pope Anderson (1927-2016)

Henry Pope Anderson (1927–2016) was an American economist and scholar celebrated for his notable contributions to the exploration of agricultural labor, migration, and the economic aspects of the Bracero Program. He served as a professor of agricultural economics at the University of California, Berkeley, where his emphasis was on labor economics and policy, particularly concerning Mexican migrant workers. His research played a crucial role in delivering a thorough economic evaluation of the Bracero Program, which facilitated the influx of Mexican laborers to the United States during and after World War II to alleviate workforce shortages in agriculture. Anderson’s academic work frequently underscored the systemic inequities and inefficiencies inherent in the program, concentrating on its economic and social effects on both American agriculture and Mexican laborers.
