Indians in Medicine

Indian Americans also comprise a significant portion of the US Medical field. Indian medical professionals work as physicians, surgeons, and nurses. “Of the 9.9 lakh doctors in the US, nearly 26.5%, or 2.6 lakh, are immigrants. More Indians have moved to the US to work as physicians than any other country. There are 59,000 Indian doctors in the US — one in five (or 22%) of all immigrant doctors are Indians. (timesofindia)”. The source also states that 7% of the total medical workforce in the US is of Indian origin. The dedication of many Indian American workers to Patient Care and their commitment to improving Public Health have been commendable. Many Indian American doctors have established successful practices and significantly contributed to medical research. Indian doctors often specialize in cardiology, infectious diseases, and critical Health Care needs. Their cultural sensitivity has enabled them to effectively communicate with diverse patient populations, fostering trust and understanding between the medical professional and the patient.
