Extra Info

The video below is about WWII German vetern, Gert Schmitz, in which he is retelling his experiences from fighting in WWII. Having an actual person to describe the events that they experienced is a lot more informative than a letter as Schmitz goes into a lot more detail of his experiences than the letters did.

This video below shows a British veteran and a German vetera from WWII meeting to have a quick discussion. Before they meet they also tell their stories and they give some good insight on what their opinions were during the war. I would recommend wacthing only until 4:50 as that is when their meeting ends.

The link below leads to a journal article, Cohesion and Disintegration in the Wehrmacht in World War II. You do need to pay to access it but if you're interested in getting more information about this topic the article gives a lot of context about the events of WWII from the German military's perspective.

The link below leads to another article similarly talking about German soldier's experience in WWII. You do not have to pay for this source so it's a good alternative for the source above although this article focuses a bit more on explaining the German's reactions to the war rather than also going into detail about the events of the war.

The article below discusses the Battle of the Bulge and also the end of WWII in general from the Germans perspective. The article specifically focuses on Lieutenant Wingolf Scherer’s and what he went through at the end of WWII.
