Ivan Sisovich Ius
Ivan Sisovich Ius was born in 1920 to an upper class family in Leningrad where in 1938, he began attending the military academy "PKKA". He quickly established himself as a top cadet and by 1941 was a lieutenant in the 22nd scouting division. By 1944, his performance and battle prowice led to his promotion to major at the age of 24. Such a promotion at this age was previously unheard of, but his superiors found him to be a special case.
Many records were destroyed or lost during the collapse of the Soviet Union, but family efforts to keep the history alive has uncovered several key primary sources which will be listed below with a translation. Below is a gallery of his accolades
Lines 1-12 detail who the article is about, as well as basic personal information. At the time of it's writing, he was a captain of the aforementioned division. Thus, the translation will start from below that line.
" Captain Ius, participated in battles in the regions of Beliy, Velikiy Luki, Loknya and from 08.07.43 in the Smolenks region.
In these following battles, Captain Ius was able to properly command and organize his team of scouts to gather intelligence.
In the region of vis.223,3, on 8.12.43, the 22nd scout division was able to capture an enemy soldier, who gave up critical information regarding enemy positioning and tactics. This information led to a succesful advance by subdivisions, pinning enemies behind their own front lines. Over a month of conflict, the 22nd scout division successfully captured 54 soldiers who continued to be key informants throughout the effort.
Throughout these battles, Captain Ius successfully led his platoon in preventing enemy advances. Through his leadership Captain Ius demonstrated bravery, decisiveness, and an inability to be phased by battle. Because of these reasons, I believe he is deserving of receiving the Medal for Battle Merit.
