WWII on the Eastern European Front

Why focus on the Eastern Front?

Though battles through the Eastern Front are widely considered by historians ot have completely shifted the tide of the war, traditional K-12 education in the USA fails to highlight this importance. Traditional history curriculums focus on two aspects of the war- The Pacific Theater and The Western Front, likely because of the heavy involvement of the USA in these areas. Some mention of the east is made as the Battle of Berlin cannot be discussed without it, but there is little background or details given beyond this operation. This is not to any fault of the system itself, as curriculum will inherently paint a US-centric picture of the war to develop a level of patriotism, just as curriculum in other countries is likely centered around their involvement. When I visited a WWII museum in Vancouver, Canada, it made it seem that the Canadians won the war single-handedly, carrying the Allies on their backs to victory. Thus, I hope that my page will grant viewers a more nuances understanding of the war in Europe, and the important role played by the USSR in ensuring an allied victory.
