The Dual-Occupation of Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia led to the political, economic, social, and cultural split of civilians across Latvia that continues to impact the shared memories of older generations. Themes of control, freedom, and resistance are prominent within the story of Latvia during World War II. It is important to recognize that many of these stories are overlooked in mainstream public history projects and initiatives.
